Southwest Finland is one of the 19 regions of Finland. The key economic sectors are bio technology and maritime industry, with ICT, food, metal and agriculture also important. Shipbuilding has long been important in Turku, where the world’s biggest cruisers are built. A Porsche car factory is also located there.
Southwest Finland has 5 sub regions and 54 municipalities. The Regional Council is a directly elected authority. The sub regions are geographical divisions of the region. Each of these has a board which is not directly elected but made up of people elected at municipal level.
